It has been a fantastic Easter here in Sydney!
Last week was Søren’s first week of work at Westpac bank. And that in itself marked a great week, but also the end of a very special period with him having lots of time with the kids, and none of us stressing over picking up and dropping off from daycare. The job start kicked off with two short weeks, but after this easy start we are fairly confident that our ‘new life’ will work out just fine. We have set up our life pretty well, living as close to the city as you can imagine. It’s a 10 minute bike ride from daycare to work – a little longer for Søren, but then he gets amazing views of the city from his building!

For a while, both Carla and Gustav have been asking us to build with their LEGO, so we spent lots of time over the last couple of weeks in the kids playroom building LEGO and having fun. During our Easter break we didn’t leave the house for a whole day, and it was pretty great!

Then suddenly Søren spotted the Easter Bunny in our garden! The kids were SO excited, (and a little disappointed that they didn’t see it). But it had left lots of chocolate eggs for them around the garden and on the terrace, so they quickly forgot about not seeing it. And for the rest of the day they both went to the garden many many times to see if there was any more eggs, -or if they could spot the bunny.
The next day we went on a road trip. We debated on a few different places, but ended up going to the Royal National Park a little south of Sydney. It’s about half an hour to the park, and then the park stretches for a long time south. It was our second time there. The first time we went to the small town inside the park, Bundeena, so this time, we wanted to do a little more exploring, and we went for a mini hike to the Bungoona lookout.

From there we drove further south to the Seacliff bridge and almost all the way to Wollongong. We had some pretty amazing vistas over the sea from roadside lookouts.

We had lunch in another lookout spot, and to Carla and Gustav’s great excitement, it was a picnic lunch. The kids ran around and played in the grass while we fixed rye bread and mackerel. A true Danish picnic in true Aussie surroundings – it doesn’t get much better!

Our final stop for the day was Garie Beach with fun water play.
The highlight for the kids was no doubt the Sydney Easter Show! We went with our Aussie/Danish friend and his daughter who is also at the kids daycare. From the stories I heard at work and read on Facebook, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. It sounded like an overpriced, overcrowded chaotic gathering of people, animals and fun fair rides. And well…, it was. But that has never really held us back, and we had the best time there. Carla and Gustav couldn’t get enough of the rides, and Gustav is pretty excited about next year where he will hopefully be big enough to try the CATERPILLAR roller-coaster! Until then I’m pretty sure he will keep on talking about it, and from what we’ve heard he introduced it to some friends in daycare as well. So now they play caterpillar together (not sure how that is done?!) 🙂

Other highlights were the animals, the ice cream, a cookie monster show, and getting to choose a show bag.

The show bag concept is new to me, but it’s a very big thing, and everyone I’ve talked to asked about the show bags, and told stories about getting show bags as kids. Show bags are basically themed bags with either candy, toys or perfumes and the likes for kids and grownups. We let the kids choose their own bag from the more than 300 different show bags that were on display in a big pavilion. Gustav ended up with a Paw Patrol bag and Carla chose a Peppa Pig bag – and every day since, we’ve had a tea party with the tea cups from Carla’s show bag, and Gustav has put out many fires wearing his Marshall Paw Patrol helmet.
Although we are more than halfway into Autumn, the weather has been absolutely amazing, and so far this is my favorite season here. We are getting full value for our indoor/outdoor kitchen area!

The newest addition to our household are two new bicycles, and I cannot describe how great it felt when I went through the city the first time – almost flying as a bird, definitely free as a bird 🙂

Until next time!
